Hero and Dakota's Pups at 1 Year
August 17, 2009
We have been celebrating the one year birthday of Hero and Dakota’s pups:
Here they are:

Niko
Niko’s owner writes: “He is so smart and is now in the process of learning his
commands in German and it's working very well.
There are so many funny tales about him growing and learning
that are too long to list, but the latest one was when he approached
one of my flower beds with butterflies on it witch he hates, he sat and
stared at this butterfly and then it landed on his nose, Ears up and he
could not get out of his own way.
He has claimed most of the property as his and will
challenge anybody coming on to it and has stopped some people
including my family from diving up the driveway, he's more show
that action, he will lick them to death.
I can't thank you enough for sending him to me.
I hope down the road I will get another dog from you,
maybe one that doesn't look like you sheared three sheep
after you brush them.
Greg”

Leia

Leia
Leia’s owner writes: “She is beautiful for sure and continues to be a wonderful family dog! She is well trained and such a quick learner”.

Apollo

Apollo

Apollo
Apollo’s owner writes: “He is well balanced. Friendly with people. Loves children. Strong play drive. Quick to learn. And you’re correct – he’s handsome. Takes after his dad.” Tom and Pat

Indy
(this email came to me with the caption, “Pat’s new head”—obviously a picture taken by a friend with a sense of humor)

Riley

Riley
Riley’s owner writes: Yesterday Riley turned a year old. He has been such a good dog!! He loves to play soccer with the kids, his favorite game is keep away. He's super friendly with everyone, people come to the house he barks and makes them think twice but as soon as they open the car door he's got his big feet on their lap welcoming them!! He loves the water and he really enjoys the snow.
He has been a great dog, We've loved having him and he always has a big smile!! He has been healthy and we haven't had any problems with him (except that he loves to carry this food bowls to the front yard) .
Thank You, Alisha and Chad

Splash
Splash’s owner writes: “Splash is a very loyal dog that loves to please and has lots of play drive like her dad. She is protective. She’ll bark at strangers, but if I tell her it’s fine she’s perfectly at ease. Splash is a great dog very responsive, happy, and loyal.” Hannah
Have you seen Hero lately?

What do you think happened to him? Was he stabbed by an evildoer, while trying to defend me?
Actually, it was this little piece of grass or foxtail, that had burrowed into his side, causing a bump about the size of a golf ball. The surgery on August 7, removed it. They tell me that it had burrowed deep.

Another reminder that oftentimes it’s the not so innocent little things which seem harmless, but which can burrow in and cause much grief.
No surprise that Hero has not missed a beat, despite my attempts to make him take it easy. It might be better if my vet does not know about this picture. I took him outside to get the photo and well, being Hero, he just had to bring me something to throw.

Hope you are enjoying your dogs as much as we are enjoying ours!
Thanks to everyone who has sent in pictures!
