This is Strongheart (V Imo Vom Werraufer SCH3, FH) and Daila's (Daila Zitavska Dolina, ZVV1) litter, born January 21.  I've been putting many of you off until I get a better feel for personality and temperament.  There will probably be some very nice working dogs in this litter as well as some more suitable to a family.  Here are the pics from this week.

First meal

snuggled in the whelping box

First time out, sea legs.  They just started walking a few days ago.  Here on the hardwood floor, they are having trouble navigating on the smooth surface.  Most were going backwards when they wanted to go forwards.

But then they got it and they all came right over to me, plopped down, and fell asleep.  That was enough exercise for today.

Who woke me?

Then back asleep.

The two females are both going to working homes.  We are waiting on a better idea of temperament before placing the males.  Already we are seeing inklings of individual personality.  One test we do at this stage is to separate them from the litter and see how they respond.  Do they sit and cry, unable to problem solve, or do they sniff the air and return to the pack?  Honestly, some just stayed asleep--hence the single sleeping puppy pictures.  As the pack pictures illustrate, when they were first out and awake, each one returned to me, then settled back to sleep.  That's a nice pack of puppies!

Best Regards,
